Joan is a Director of CLC and Director and co-founder of the Institute of Psychosynthesis, London, a school for psychotherapy. Within CLC she acts as supervisor and mentor to the consultants and training staff, and is involved in CLC consultant development programmes. She has been training professionals in psychotherapy in the UK and Europe for 25 years, has been active in the larger community steering psychotherapy training towards becoming more professional. She is currently responsible for the Institute’s R&D and publishing programmes. She has been largely responsible for the design of its academic and training programmes leading to the professional qualification of psychotherapists recognised at a national level. She initiated the founding of AAPP, was Chair of HIPS and a member of the Governing Board of the UKCP from 1996 to 1998.
Responsible as Director of Training for developing a partnership between the Institute of Psychosynthesis and Middlesex University in order to award an MA in psychotherapy, and MA in Applied Psychosynthesis and a Post graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
Editor of a number of Institute publications including yearbooks and the journal Forum. She has written of numerous psychotherapy papers and articles.
She was trained in microbiology, studied languages and psychology, and was a Psychology Research Fellow at Sussex University. She has an MA in psychosynthesis psychotherapy, a diploma in psychotherapy and is an accredited psychotherapist with UKCP.
As supervisor Joan sees a key part of her role as helping consultants to increase their awareness of the interplay between the mindsets and behaviours of the individual, group and whole system. She works with the unconscious patterns at each of these levels that often drive resistance and ‘difficult’ behaviours as well as the power of parallel process within the consulting teams that mirror the client organization.
